SolePlaning

If you need to ski with under binding cant shims you realize the benefits and drawbacks of them. It is much more efficient to shave or plane the bottom of the boot sole to achieve the cant angle. With boot soles planed it is possible to demo skis and switch skis and still be balanced with out cant shims. The down side to boot sole planing is returning the boot sole dimensions back to DIN standards so the boot and binding interface properly. We will add lifts to the bottom of the sole once the angle have been achieved and then grind off material from the top of the heel and toe lugs. This is in lieu of adding epoxy which will eventually fail. We do have a blend of epoxy that will work but why chance it. The risk is that the epoxy may chip off when you need it the most, sacrificing the boot and binding interface. We can get to within 1/2° accuracy with the planer. Send us your boot along with the measurements and we can get them back to you within a couple of days.

Sole Lifts

Sole build ups are the rage these days. The FIS race officials decided that bindings were getting dangerously too high off the snow with additional lifts and lowered the limit. This got some coaches a bit peeved. These upset coaches found a loop hole in the rule book that stated if you had a leg length difference you could add material to a boot sole to make up the difference. All of a sudden all of the Swiss team members had two short legs and lots of lift added to their boot soles. Better leverage and higher edge angles are easier to obtain with the widest part of the foot higher off the ground. As the sole is lifted we then had to make a special gig to cut the heel and toe lugs back to DIN standards while not putting any holes in the boot. There is something that feels really good about having the boot lifted as opposed to having lots of lift and additional weight on the ski. This is not for racers only. Free skiers also benefit from this . While skiing soft snow, crud, or steeps it helps to keep the boot from getting deflected by the snow allowing for a smoother ride.
THIS IS A MAJOR BREAK THROUGH FOR FOLKS THAT HAVE A LEG LENGTH DISCREPANCY !!!
NOW WE CAN LIFT THE BOOT INSTEAD OF LIFTING THE BINDING ON THE SKI.
Sole Lifts

The most typical lifts are 3mm. 5mm. and 8mm. thick.

The measurement is made form where the skin of the hell touches the inside of the boot to the outside of the boot sole at the heel. The limits is 45mm. For ski instructors or ski patrollers who walk a lot in their boots this allows us to put removable heels and toes on practically any boot now.  GIVE US A CALL FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS.
YOU CAN FED-EX US YOUR BOOTS AND HAVE THEM BACK IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.
